DOCUMENTS FOR A SANTORINI CIVIL WEDDING

 

All documents require to be translated ONLY by Greek authorities,

such as a Greek Consulate or Embassy (in your city

or country) or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.

An independent translator with notary stamp IS NOT accepted by the Greek authorities or church.

*All translators should be approved by the Greek Consulate or Embassy.

 

PART ONE

 

US CITIZENS:

 

  1. Affidavit of Single Status and No Impediment to Marriage.
    1. One for Bride and one for Groom.
    2. Obtainable at your Local Notary Public.
    3. Affidavits to be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.
    4. Requires Apostille (see information below) from within the state of where the document was issued.
    5. Requires translation to Greek including the Apostille pages.

 

AND Marriage License

    1. One license for the both of you.
    2. Obtained from your local Town Hall/RegistrarÕs Office/Vital StatisticÕs Office.
    3. To be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.
    4. Requires translation to Greek
    5. No Apostille necessary

 

  1. OR Letter of No Impediment from the American Consulate in Athens.
    1. One for Bride and One for Groom
    2. To be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.
    3. Will be issued in Greek at the Consulate.
    4. No Apostille necessary.
    5. Request that they send the documents directly to your wedding organizer.

 

UK CITIZENS:

 

  1. Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage OR Marriage License
    1. One for Bride and one for Groom.
    2. Obtainable at your local Registry/Vital StatisticÕs Office.
    3. Requires translation to Greek including the Apostille pages.
    4. Requires Apostille from the Foreign Commonwealth Office.

 

  1. OR Letter of No Impediment from the British Consulate in Athens.
    1. One for Bride and One for Groom
    2. To be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.
    3. Will be issued in Greek at the Consulate.
    4. No Apostille necessary.
    5. Request that they send the documents directly to your wedding organizer.

 

     CANADIAN CITIZENS:

 

  1. Letter of No Impediment to Marriage
    1. One for the Bride and one for Groom.
    2. Obtainable at your local Registry/Vital StatisticÕs Office.
    3. Requires Legalisation from your state authority of where the document was issued.
    4. Requires translation to Greek including the legalized pages.

 

AND Affidavit of Single Status and No Impediment to Marriage.

a.     One for Bride and one for Groom.

b.     Obtainable at your Local Notary Public. (Please ask us for sample documents.).

c.     Affidavits to be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.

d.     Requires legalisation from within the state of where the document was issued.

e.     Requires translation to Greek including the legalized pages.

 

  1. OR Letter of No Impediment from the Canadian Consulate in Athens.
    1. One for Bride and One for Groom
    2. To be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.
    3. Will be issued in Greek at the Consulate.
    4. No Legalisation necessary as it is issued in Greece from the Consulate.
    5. Request that they send the documents directly to your wedding organizer.

 

* Special note for Canadian citizens. If you were not born in Canada, you need to submit true certified copies of your citizenship card and record of landing form. These DO require legalization & translation to Greek.

 

AUSTRALIAN Citizens and Citizens of OTHER COUNTRIES:

 

  1. Single Status Letter/Letter of No Impediment to Marriage/Marriage License.
    1. One for Bride and one for Groom (for Marriage License only 1 document for the couple).
    2. Requires Apostille.
    3. Requires translation to Greek including the apostille pages.
    4. To be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.

    1. One for Bride and One for Groom
    2. To be issued within 3 months of the wedding date.
    3. Will be issued in Greek at the Consulate.
    4. No apostille necessary.
    5. Request that they send the documents directly to your wedding organizer.

 

v  Kindly take note that depending on your country of origin, these documents may have a time limit of validity and may be valid for 1 month, 2 months, etc.

 

v  Under Greek Law a Marriage License only has a 3 month validity.  In some countries & certain US States a Marriage License can be obtained with a 6-month validity.  This is acceptable by Greek Authorities as long as the 6-month validity is clearly printed on the document and is valid until the date of the wedding.

 

PART TWO

 

FOR ALL COUNTRIES:

 

  1. CERTIFIED COPIES OF FULL BIRTH CERTIFICATES
    1. One for Bride and one for Groom.
    2. To be dated within 6 months of the wedding date.
    3. Requires Apostille (from the state/country of where the document was issued) or legalization (in countries where apostille is not available – such as Canada).
    4. Requires translation to Greek including the Apostille/legalized pages.

 

  1. DIVORCE Certificate/Decree in the event there are any.
    1. Certified copy for each divorce (if applicable).
    2. Requires Apostille (from the state/country of where the document was issued) or legalization (in countries where apostille is not available – such as Canada).
    3. Requires translation to Greek including the Apostille/legalized pages.

 

  1. DEED POLL/Name Change/Adoption in the event there are any.
    1. Certified copy for each (if applicable)
    2. Requires Apostille (from the state/country of where divorce was granted) or legalization (in countries where apostille is not available – such as Canada).
    3. Requires translation to Greek including the Apostille/legalized pages.

 

  1. PASSPORTS – BRIDE and GROOM
    1. Photo copies only.
    2. You must bring your passports to Santorini

 

  1. PASSPORTS – WITNESSESÕ (If witnesses are provided for you by the organizer, please ignore this step.)
    1. Photo copies only.
    2. They must bring their passports to Santorini.

 

PART THREE

 

NEW LEGISLATURE: Applicable for ALL civil weddings

 

1)     Bride and Groom will go with the Wedding Director to the Town Hall (RegistrarÕs Office) the day after the wedding. (Monday through Friday only before 12 noon)

a.     If the couple are not available due to early departure, or are not available on a weekday, the couple will need to go with the Wedding Director to the Notary Public office to sign an affidavit that they authorize the Wedding Director to collect their Marriage Certificate on their behalf and then send it to the coupleÕs address at home.

 

2)     Couples arriving via cruise ship (1 day stay): Will go with the Wedding Director to the Town Hall the day of the wedding upon arrival to port if possible. (Monday – Friday only and Town Hall meeting must be before 12 noon).

a.     If the couple is not available or prefer to avoid this step, it is possible to sign an affidavit in your country at your Embassy or Consulate authorizing the Wedding Director to file your marriage application and register your marriage and send your wedding certificate to your home.
